have had cancer to sleep better and reduce their dependence on medications for
sleep. The results found in research on women who have had breast cancer.
This study revealed that doing yoga twice a week can improve
sleep quality and duration of sleep of patients who have had breast cancer.
This research can be very useful for clinicians who want to provide a different
standard in patients who have recovered from cancer.
"One important message is that yoga can be beneficial.
Either the people affected by sleep disorders or insomnia, yoga can help
improve the quality of sleep," said Karen Mustian of James P Wilmot Cancer
Center in New York, as reported by Reuters (30 / 08).
Mustian explains that about 30-90 percent of patients who
have survived cancer are having problems of sleeping. This could be due to the
diagnosis of cancer and the side effects experienced during treatment such as
surgery, chemotherapy, hormone therapy and radiation.
The research revealed that yoga can lower blood pressure,
overcome anxiety, depression, and insomnia. These results were found after
researchers observed 410 people who have been cured of cancer from 12 cities in
the United States. The average age of participants was 54 years.
In addition to improving the quality of sleep, participants
who did yoga regularly also reduces the consumption of sleeping pills they are
up to 21 percent per week. While participants who did not do yoga even adds to
